Yahoo old logoMany search engine optimization experts recommend getting links from portals with .edu .org and .gov extensions to increase the web popularity a website receives. This theory is based on the fact that these portals are generally authoritative and neutral (.edu portals are universities, .org portals are institutions or NGOs and .gov portals are government portals).

According to Google, getting a link from this type of portals is a great merit, so it gives a great weight of quality when receiving a link.

If we want to calculate how many links from this type of portals we receive or our competitors receive, we can use the following command in the Yahoo! search engine:

linkdomain:www.miportal.com AND (site:.edu OR site:.gov OR site:.org)-site:www.miportal.com
