Nic.es is the registration and management platform for .es domains that belongs to the organization that regulates these ccTLDs, red.es. This public business entity is attached to the Secretary of State for Telecommunications and the Information Society of the Ministry of Industry.
Nic.es is contained within the portal dominios.es and allows you to perform the following operations:
- Register a .es domain
- Renew a domain
- Edit and / or change any domain data
- Change Registrar Agent at any time
- Transfer domain
To register a .es domain you must first check if the domain is free. To do this we will go to the domain information section and add the domain name and click on search.
If the domain is free, it will indicate it on the web and we will be able to register it. To continue with the registration we can choose to do it from domains.es or choose a registrar agent to perform the registration from their web page. Then you only have to follow the steps indicated in each case.
To manage .es domains you must have an identifier called Nic-handle, which is created when you register on the nic.es website.
With this identifier we will be able to register domains from the nic.es website. If we choose to register from a registrar agent, an automatic Nic-handle will be created when we register the new .es domain and provided that it has been previously created. In the case of .es domains, the registration agents have a more secondary role than in other extensions since, at any time, you can resign from this agent to manage a domain. If a registrar agent is resigned, it is assigned directly to nic.es where we will be able to manage the domain.
A person can have more than one Nic-handle although, in order not to have problems if in the future we want to manage the domain or in the specific case of transferring the domain, it is very important that the name, email and NIF are truthful and correct data, since it will depend on it that we can identify ourselves correctly and the managements that we want are carried out.
It is very important that the name, email and NIF of the Nic-handle are true and correct.
There are some procedures that can be carried out simply by identifying yourself with the Nic-handle. For example, the renewal of a domain name. To do this, you must go to the payment gateway available on the platform, called Viapago, and make the payment for the renewal. Modifying technical data such as DNS or others such as cancelling the registrar agent assignment is also easy.
There are other modifications such as the transfer of domains between registrars that require an explicit acceptance by email.
The most critical changes, such as those concerning the owner of the domain or the administrative contact, have a special procedure, called the transfer procedure. This consists of sending a request, which is provided on the same website by filling out a simple form, along with a copy of the ID card that identifies the domain owner or the administrative contact. A few days after receiving the documentation, nic.es staff will check the data and accept or cancel the requested modifications. In the case of the process using electronic ID, it is not necessary to send a copy of the ID and the process usually takes the same amount of time.
